Plugged In and Tuned Out

Namaste and welcome to another edition of the Quiet Mouse Strikes Back. Thanks for joining me today and taking time out of your busy schedule to read my blog posting(s). Today I want to talk about how today's humans, but youth in particular, are addicted to the Internet and digital media. Let's jump right in.

Everywhere you go you can readily see people plugged in and tuned out to the reality around them. Let's face it, the Internet is stimulating in a way that nothing else is. The constant gaming, social media, and Internet surfing is leading to increased distractability, anxiety, depression, tech-addiction, and in rare cases game induced psychosis. Studies have shown that over-use of digital media by kids can worsen predisposed conditions like ADHD. In older kids it has been shown to increase likelihood of drug use and depression.
This level of over-stimulation at an early age creates additional desensitization whereby the child then constantly requires a high level of stimulation or else they easily become bored, often angry when separated from their digital device.
Thankfully the answer is easy. UNPLUG. Go outside or make your kids go outside; engage in physical activity and be off of and away from the over-stimulation of digital media. There are counselors trained on how to deal with these issues, but the parents must recognize the issues and take steps to deal with them.
Well, I could probably go on and on, but I think you probably get the idea. Have a nice day.
