Namaste and thank you for joining me today for another blog posting for the Quiet Mouse Strikes Back. Today I want to talk about artificial food colors and dyes that have some funky health side effects.
You are what you eat, plain and simple. Candy, soda, popsicles, ice creams, and a plethora of commercially processed foods all contain food dyes that the FDA claims are of no health risk to the human body. These artificial dyes can be found as well in cosmetics. Further scientific testing of these products, however, has yielded results of an atypical nature including ADHD, hyperactivity, allergies, asthma, and cancers of all sorts. Europe has already banned most of these chemicals due to their health risks and it's time that the United States join in and do the same.
Most of these artificial dyes and colors are created from petroleum (used to make gasoline, diesel fuel, asphalt, and tar) or coal based products. Even the FDA has admitted that children in particular are affected more by these dyes that can lead to serious allergic reactions and hyperactivity. According to research 95-99% of children have and continually eat these toxic and carcinogenic products on a regular basis, as much as 3 pounds of these coal-based dyes consumed by the time a child reaches 12 years of age, increasing the risk of cancer exponentially.
Here's what you can do: READ THE LABELS of commercially processed foods. Don't eat or feed to your family the products filled with this toxicity and carcinogenic crap. Write to your senators and congressmen to have these products removed and replaced with non-toxic plant-based dyes that are safe for human consumption. If at all possible avoid anything labeled with the following dyes: Red 8, Red 9, Red 19, Red 36, Orange 17, Yellow 5 & 6, among others.
