Marvel Vs. DC 7: Endgame

Namaste and welcome my friends, family, and fellow knowledge seekers to my blog. If you haven't yet, this is the 7th post in a series, so please feel free to stop and read those posts at your leisure. I am the one and only Quiet Mouse, thank you for joining me today.

The Infinity Stone arc is nearly complete for the MCU and we know there are a lot of big changes in store for the characters we as fans have come to love. There was a lot of heartache in the Infinity War as the snap dusted many of our favorite heroes like Groot, Drax, Doctor Strange, Black Panther, and Spiderman, among others...

We know for sure that the introduction of Captain Marvel is imminent, teased by the pager held in Nick Fury's hand as he is dusted with Agent Hill along with subsequent trailers for her explosive (first in the MCU) female lead role. The addition of the Skrulls into the MCU could have implications of the Secret War; thus leading in to Avengers: Endgame and beyond the Infinity arc to the phase 4 of films.

We also know from the release of the trailer for Spiderman: Far From Home that both Peter Parker and Nick Fury are both somehow revived from the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Also in the Spiderman Far From Home trailer we also see what are likely elementals. Parker also is seen suiting up in a black costume from Nick Fury. Looks exciting. Lots of anticipation for Marvel's number 1 super hero in his last outing for the MCU before returning to the licensed rights of Sony pictures as they seek to expand their Spider-verse. Speaking of...

Spiderman Into the Spider-verse has been a huge box office success earning a perfect 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes, a feat rarely seen. I have not been able to see it yet, but am genuinely looking forward to seeing it and letting my readers know what my thoughts are on it.

On the flip side of the coin is the DCEU who scored massive gains on their movie Aquaman starring Jason Mamoa. I, myself am surprised to see that this movie has surpassed the Batman: Dark Knight in the box office and has become the most successful DC comics movie of all time, grossing currently well over 1 billion dollars in the global box office. Congrats! I will have checked it for myself and truly believe it HAS indeed lived up to the hype. Despite a low score on Rotten Tomatoes, I found it quite entertaining and fun for the family. It was filled with action, humor, romance, betrayal, forgiveness, and of course a lot of ass kicking. There were indeed a few flaws with the CGI, but a stellar cast including Patrick Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundgren, and many more. It was an ambitious project for DC to turn what many fans thought to be a weak comic book character into a cinematic bad ass. Hands down I think this is actually the BEST comic book movie DC has EVER made. Just my opinion. I base it on several factors. 1) The movie was much less white-washed than most Hollywood fodder 2) This movie managed to break the one-and-done villain curse both they and Marvel studios have struggled with in the past.

Also on the DC horizon looking into 2019 and farther we have the film SHAZAM! Basic story is that a kid receives powers that when he yells the movie named word "shazam!" he transforms into an adult sized super hero with powers comparable to Superman. I, for one, am curious to see what villain Warner and DC have strummed up to face off against the hero, because EVERYONE KNOWS that DC's villains are their bread and butter.

Further out for DC, but in production, is Suicide Squad 2. After James Gunn's questionable release by Disney/Marvel films, he was immediately signed on to write and direct the highly anticipated sequel it's predecessor which was a surprise hit with comic movie fans. Seems like we're going to be seeing more of Deathstroke soon. Plus, in addition, there are internet rumors that a disgruntled Dave Bautista, known for playing Drax the Destroyer in the Guardians of the Galaxy Franchise (which seems like it is falling apart at the seams), is going to play DC villain Bane in this film, who we saw played by Tom Hardy in the Dark Knight Rises (previously). As a comic movie fan, I think this would be fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing Will Smith back in action as Deadshot, along with Margot Robbie as Harley Quin and of course Jarred Leto as the infamous and psychopathic Joker.

Switching back to the Marvel side...
Avengers Endgame is the most ambitious super hero film ever. There are many fan theories out there including time travel, infinite time loops (like the one we saw with Dormamu in Doctor Strange), alternate universes, and sinister Infinity stones, i.e. the soul stone and mind stone manipulate the will of the holder to evil intent...
Another theory is that Tony Stark himself is the villain of the arc; or perhaps he'll have to sacrifice himself to save the son he never had in Peter Parker or perhaps Harley Keener from Iron Man 3? If you follow the evidence of the entire arc for Stark. Remember in Iron Man 3 with the PTSD after the battle of New York from the first Avengers movie. Imagine how he will now act that his protege in Spider-man got dusted and he is stuck, lost in space aboard the Guardians of the Galaxy's, well Star Lord's, ship the Milano. On Earth, the rest of the remaining heroes are forced to regroup and access the damage done by "the snap". It will also be interesting to see how Ant Man escapes the Quantum Realm, and how that could play into the time travel fan theory. Also noted that Marvel executives have said that Captain Marvel does indeed possess the ability to time travel as well. All in all, I believe Endgame will be the movie that the fans deserve and we will finally get to see all the heroes on the screen at the same time in the master battle for the future of Earth and the 9 realms.
Image result for black widow solo film
Phase 4 begins with Spiderman Far From Home and we also know that there is a solo Black Widow film in the works. Sadly, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is up in the air after the firing of the director James Gunn. Dave Bautista has said he may not return as Drax even if it does resume production, over the friendship with Gunn. Guardians could use the introduction of new characters like Nova, Adam Warlock, and even members of the Fantastic 4 like the Human Torch and the Thing.
Marvel head Kevin Feige also has revealed plans for a Young Avengers movie, to include Iron lad (likely Harley Keenan from Iron Man 3), Cassie Lang (Ant Man's daughter), Hulkling, among others...

Well, it's gonna be incredibly exciting to see how it all plays out. With the inclusion of Fox studios and bringing back the X-Men, Fantastic 4, and Deadpool to Marvel, we may even see cameos from Wolverine or others in Endgame and beyond. Feige wants to introduce them into the MCU soon. We just don't know when and where that will be. On the Fox side of Marvel, X-Men: Dark Phoenix is due to be out this summer and looks to me like a remake of X-Men 3 Last Stand with the First Class actors. Sophie Turner is good in the role of Jean Gray and looks to be another hit for the Marvel brand. Sadly, future Fox spinoffs like Gambit, Dr. Doom, and X-Force are reported to be canceled in lieu of the MCU rebooting the franchise for their own future films. The best we can hope for from the Fox Marvel franchise is a likely Deadpool 3.

R.I.P. "Mean" Gene Okerlund

Namaste, my friends, family, and fellow knowledge seekers. Welcome to my blog the Quiet Mouse Strikes back. Today I want to briefly mourn the passing of a legend in "Mean" Gene Okerlund (nicknamed by Jesse "the body" Ventura, former pro wrestler, actor, and governor of Minnesota).

I do not personally know this man, but grew up watching him as a commentator for the WWE, formerly known at that time as WWF, then on WCW. I remember the charismatic interviews with the likes of Andre the Giant, "Macho Man" Randy Savage, the Ultimate Warrior, Hulk Hogan, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash of the NWO (also known as Diesel and Razor Ramone), Diamond Dallas Page, Goldberg, the Steiner brothers, and many more hall of fame wrestlers over the years.

Fans will no doubt remember his interviews with Rowdy Roddy Piper and Jake "the snake" Roberts.
Gene Okerlund is a legend in the profession wrestling business. He was good at entertaining the fans and will be missed by many; a voice of a generation.

I personally thought it was a big deal the way Monday night RAW paid tribute to Mean Gene Okerlund bringing out the immortal Hulk Hogan to say one more time... "Well you know, Mean Gene..." Perhaps Hogan is correct. Perhaps Gene IS up in heaven commentating for the heavens. God bless you for your time on Earth and all the lives you've touched and the smiles you've elicited.
