What is "normal"?

What is "normal"?
I often wonder such things. This evening I wish to digress into this topic, so won't you join me?

According to the Meriam-Webster dictionary, normal is defined in several ways:
1. according with, constituting, or not deviating from a norm, rule, or principle
2. occurring naturally and not because of disease, inoculation, or any experimental treatment
3. of, relating to, or characterized by average intelligence or development

My steady readers know, of course that I'm not going to just leave it be with the simple textbook definition of what is "normal", because let's be honest, it is constantly changing. For example, it wasn't even that long ago in American culture, even as recently as Marilyn Monroe when men were more focused on women with curves and it was okay to be plus sized; this was considered "normal". This is in contrast to the modern media portrayal of beauty as being anorexic/bulimic twig women with no boobs, ass, or curves... basically just a bag of bones with bleach blonde hair and fake breasts.
As for the topic at hand, I think that the modern idea of "normal" is what society SEES on television and internet, primarily. "Normal" has been crafted from a construct to being a lifestyle, often based on unrealistic expectations placed upon people that go against the basic instincts of the human animal. Religion, schools, parents, corporations, and especially the government all have a vested interest in spreading and maintaining the status quo. After all, knowingly or unknowingly, we all spread a bias based on our own unique personal perspectives. There are as many different perspectives in the world as there are its' human inhabitants. How then can we assume that there is even such thing as "normal"? Personally, I was NOT born out of a cookie cutter mold and I whole heartedly believe that it is our subtle minor differences that not only make us unique, but they also make us as a species capable of tremendously amazing wonders of creation. On the flip side of that coin, our unique differences have been the root cause of so much fear, hatred, and violence as well. Much like the yin yang it is our dualistic personalities that EVERYONE possesses that create and destroy, as we are ALL just the children of the stardust and universal consciousness known as GOD.
So again, I ask the question of what is "normal"?
According to Christians, being Christian is "normal". How can this be? According to them, you will burn in a lake of fire for not being one of them. According to Muslims, their faith is "normal", despite their acceptance of violence as a means to invoke change. Point is that each subgroup that has divided itself away from the rest of the populace thinks that it's own cultures and traditions are somehow the way that everyone else should strive to be like... like the Mormons.
Unfortunately, "normal" has become this herd-like mentality, often spread by religion right along side the political police state, where people live in fear of ripples in the pond. There are all too many people that have succumbed to the apathy effect where basically they stop caring because they continually see more and more people every day living in a pharmaceutically induced zombie state, living, but not really ALIVE!
You may think that I am exaggerating or being a little dramatic, but look around you. The obesity rate is skyrocketing and with it a whole slew of problems. Then of course another "normal" aspect of American culture is the "throw away" lifestyle many live in, wasteful and negligent... and we elect money hungry, self serving sociopaths to "run" our country, United States Incorporated.
"Normal" has become a fear to be different. "Normal" has become a fear of government, or at the least a blissful ignorance at the scope and depth of treachery and conspiracy within the institution itself. "Normal" has become an American society stuck in front of the idiot box being brainwashed and manipulated into mindless, materialistic, consumer driven, self centered fantasies as they get fatter, stupider, and lazier, unfortunately.
"Normal" has changed over the millenia along with technological and social advances. There is no doubt that the definition will continue to evolve as humans continue to evolve. I hope that "normal" will one day be that people can live in harmony with the dualistic aspect of each individuals' personality, when we can accept ourselves with all of our uniqueness, flaws, and abilities, and hopefully one day we will be able to coexist without violence and murder, in harmony with the laws of nature and the universe, rather than the perverted laws of man that put a cannabis smoker in jail for longer than someone who committed a violent crime, where nature is made illegal and corporations control our food, water supply, and the very air we breathe. I dream of that day, but until then I am proud to be unique, yet still part of the whole, as we are all one and a part of a greater whole, at the same time. Simple minds cannot yet grasp such contradictions, but thus is the nature of life, this duality that we are faced with constantly. It is time for us to evolve out of childhood as a united humanity and grow into maturity, prepared for a new millennium where TOGETHER we can achieve our wildest dreams, divided we will just continue to fight, bleed, and die. Being "normal" to me is not worth the sacrifice of my mind, body, or soul. I have NEVER been "normal" and I'm okay with that.
Ladies and gentlemen, this has been the one and only Quiet Mouse.
Peace. Love. Respect. Compassion. Empathy. Individuality.
