Code Languages

Have you ever been somewhere and you turn around and you could swear others around you are talking a different language? This is the Quiet Mouse and today I want to explore the mysteries of hidden languages and why people feel the need to use code words throughout their multi-racial influenced jargon.

It is prevalent when we go to the doctor's office or hospital where the staff of MD's and RN's use medical terminology, usually Latin to describe everything from the names of bones and muscles to identifying diagnoses on an x-ray. 

The police have their own code language to describe the multitude of criminal codes that the officer(s) get called on their radio for. One example is that a 187 is a homicide. 

Lawyers are NOTORIOUS for their use of Latin in there code-like legalese, that the majority of the population does NOT speak. It is obvious that this is part of the reason for the bias in the justice system against those who are poor and less fortunate, as they are often the ones who do not speak the right language even to defend themselves properly, especially against corporations who are legally seen as a "person" despite their TEAMS of lawyers to defend their interests.

Moving on, many also know that the MILITARY is the KING of code language(s) as they use military time, and a documented military code of justice that differs from the civilian counterparts. Most people, if not having previously served in the armed forces or having had a family member serve would have NO IDEA what the phrase "watch your six" meant or what a BIVOUAC is. 

The greatest code language of the modern era, that many more people, especially today's youth can relate to is: computer code. This is both true and a misnomer at the same time because there are actually 2 different types of computer language: the language of the programmer and the language of the user. I personally do NOT know the language of the programmer, so for now I will focus on that of the user. I must admit that this is one of those things that makes me want to slap kids these days when I see them sitting around and I hear an audible "lol" or "rofl"... spelled out and everything. This is lame and shows the immaturity and overall dumbing down of today's youth. Not only do I want to slap the child but also his/her parent for allowing such behavior in the first place. I believe it is indicative of an overall systemic problem where people are just too stupid and lazy to speak proper English, and it's NOT just kids these days as I hear more and more "adults" digressing into stupor. 

Then of course there are other code languages for those that do drugs to avoid getting caught by their parents or the police. There are code words that parents use to avoid having to explain things like sex to their children.  Also there are hundreds of different languages in general and with the rising Hispanic population, I can attest that sometimes it feels like those around you are using this alternative language as a code so others cannot listen in and hear that they are probably calling you a "stupid white asshole"... oh wait, I DO know how to say that "stupido gringo pendejo".

To sum up, I think that some of the time, if not the MAJORITY of the time, these code languages are used to confuse people and so that the users, be it doctors, police officers, or ignorant teenagers can get away with saying things that are otherwise less than appropriate for open public speak. Also another problem I see in this issue is the ethnocentrism of American citizens as they think that everyone in the world should speak English. Now YES, admittedly it IS difficult to learn other languages, even the ones I listed above that are "technically" in English and should be easy for us to adapt and integrate, however, WE are like the ONLY modern industrial country in the world that doesn't speak AT LEAST 2-3 languages proper. No wonder we are getting our asses kicked in the global markets. Stupid Americans can't even speak English properly and are going around using computer instant message code (bff, lmao, rotfl, etc.) and EBONICS as spoken language while the Japanese are speaking 3 to 4 different languages (INCLUDING ENGLISH) BETTER than US, in addition to the fact that they are better at math and sciences than us already... how are we better than them again? Oh yeah, we have MORE BOMBS!! 

Wow, wait a minute, that kinda makes us bigger dumb-asses since we measure our strengths in weapons and they measure theirs in actual BRAINS.
