Well, it's the 4th of July again, my friends, family, and fellow knowledge seekers. Namaste. Thanks for taking the time to read my thoughts.
It seems odd to me how citizens of this nation act on its' day of independence. Our founding fathers fought a war against England/ Great Britain on the behalf of future generations to preserve freedom and liberty across this great land. Blood, sweat, and tears were shed to ensure the freedoms for all Americans (unless you were a slave or a woman, of course).
242 years later, the holiday is used as an excuse for idiots to get drunk and act trashy. Not quite the American dream our fore fathers had in mind. Every holiday our beaches, rivers, lakes, and waterways are decimated and defaced by drunk assholes who THINK it's their right to destroy our beautiful nation by littering garbage everywhere, including beer cans and bottles, paper, cardboard, and plastic wastes that are toxic to the environment and animals, both land and aquatic.
What so many people don't realize is that with freedom comes responsibility. When you go out to party, it is EVERY SINGLE CITIZENS RESPONSIBILITY TO CLEAN UP AFTER SELF!!! Your mom does not work at the beach or wherever you are having a good time. It is NOT someone else's job to clean up YOUR mess. It is embarrassing, as a concerned citizen, to see the gross (and I mean GROSS) negligence of others who think "they pay someone to clean this up". What is this, kindergarten?!? Folks, if anyone actually believes that shit, they should be ashamed of that level of stupidity and selfishness.
EVERY SINGLE HUMAN BEING is responsible for cleaning up their own messes. PERIOD. It is complete and utter bull shit to expect someone else to clean up your drunken mess. I am perfectly fine with any and all of these polluting fuck-tards to get ticketed and or arrested for their crime of being drunk/ intoxicated in public, as well as for littering and being a douche bag.
Independence day SHOULD be a time to rejoice, kick back, and enjoy the freedoms granted to us by our Constitution. However, we also have the RESPONSIBILITY AS CITIZENS in assisting and maintaining the splendor and beauty that is our nation. That means we cannot afford to trash our beaches, rivers, oceans, waterways, and other landmarks out of ignorance, stupidity, or selfishness. We must take responsibility and pick up the trash. Recycle the beer bottles and cans and cardboard boxes and red solo cups, among other forms of trash like fire crackers, mortars, and cigarettes. And ABOVE ALL: do NOT start any forest fires!!! Especially here in the Pacific northwest where my family, friends, and I live.
Lastly: I would always recommend letting the professionals handle the fireworks. As a medical professional, I KNOW and have seen many firework related injuries, especially to the hands. Second, If you are going to go out drinking, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get a designated driver, Lyft, Uber, or something. The roads are already a dangerous place driving around a missile weapon that is the automobile without adding in the dangerous element of drunk drivers. Plus, I can guarantee in most places police will already know what I know and be out patrolling for drivers with DUI or DWI status. Don't be another statistic, please. And finally, to finish this blog, I'm going to reitterate DO NOT LITTER!!! The world is NOT your personal waste bin. Your mom isn't gonna be there to clean up after your immature ass if you litter like a jerk and a loser. We only have 1 Earth. We only have 1 United States of America. Our founding fathers believed so much in this idea of freedom (WITH RESPONSIBILITY) that they gifted it to future generations, whom many spit on and take advantage of those freedoms, often breaking the laws flagrantly. Don't be that guy/gal.
