Namaste and welcome back to another posting for the Quiet Mouse Strikes Back. Thank you for taking time out of your day to be one of the over 33,000 viewers for my blog. Today I want to talk about the immortal Hulk Hogan.
I grew up watching professional wrestling. I remember Hulk Hogan very well with the messages about taking your vitamins and being strong like the Hulkamaniac. I remember the disappointment lined with eager anticipation of what would happen next as Hulk joined the NWO in WCW. I remember when Hulk and Eric Bischoff were managers on TNA wrestling, and then more recently when Hogan came back to WWE as a legend and guest judge on Tough Enough.
There are too many memorable matches to count; iconic matches like when he teamed up with Dennis Rodman against DDP and Karl Malone. His match against Andre the Giant at Wrestle Mania 3 was legendary and his battles with the Macho Man Randy Savage and Ric Flair were some of my childhood favorites.
Now, unfortunately, Hulk Hogan (a.k.a. Terry Bollea) has a tainted legacy due to accusations, and probably evidence of blatant racial slurs... i.e. he said the word "nigger" several times and was caught on tape. Since this evidence has come to light the WWE has taken actions to fire Hulk Hogan and have pretty much removed him from any association with the brand including from the WWE Shop and website. Not sure, but I suspect in light of all this they will most likely squash the Axelmania gimmick from Curtis Axel, which admittedly was kinda funny teamed up with Damien Sandow who is mimicking the moves and style of the Macho Man.
It is sad in this day and age that people are still so hung up on race. According to what I have read, the racial comments were made about people who were dating his daughter Brook Hogan. In my opinion, YES, it was stupid for him to say in the first place, but I also think that given the record of this man and what he has done to put the WWE on the map for sports entertainment, I think that they should have given him a second chance instead of blindly trying to erase his legacy, that WILL live on. Hulkamania may have hit a road block for now, but the fans will forgive him and eventually find understanding with the man who has immortalized professional wrestling for all those who come into the squared ring to entertain the millions and millions of fans around the world now and into the future.
Hulk Hogan has been a star in the ring and a movie star as well, but more importantly he has made a huge cultural impression as an icon that has had an impact on millions of people. I suppose the moral of this story is to keep your negative comments to yourself... you never know when someone is listening or even taping your words, or you could just like NOT be a racist douche... there's a thought.
Well this is about all I have to say about that. Please take time to read any of my nearly 250 blogs, join this blog as a friend, or feel free to leave some comments on my postings... I always love feedback. Have a blessed day.
