Hello and welcome my friends, family, and fellow knowledge seekers to another posting on my blog, the Quiet Mouse Strikes Back. If you've read my past blogs, you'll know that I'm a bit of a geek, a lover of film and music. Today I want to talk about an issue that is absolutely OUT OF CONTROL online and across social media: petitions.
I normally start my postings with something like "namaste"... today not. I actually am having difficulty understanding and/or being accepting of these trolls that insist on going online to bitch and complain endlessly about a show or movie, often times before it ever even airs on TV or in the cinema. A few good examples are the Marvel Cinematic Universe films like Star Wars, Black Panther, Captain Marvel, and Avengers Endgame receiving horrendous reviews from angry "fans" that are so morally devoid that they must go online and try to ruin everything for others.
There's a petition to make Danny Devito Wolverine?
There's a petition to remove episode 8 the Last Jedi from Star Wars canon...
There's a petition to remake season 8 of Game of Thrones...
There's a petition to recast Brie Larson as Captain Marvel and a different one to make her homosexual...
There's a petition for Marvel to NOT put LGBTQ characters into their films...
There are other petitions to include more characters into the MCU of color, ethnicity, and LGBTQ representation...
There's a petition for Warner Bros. to release the Zack Snyder version of Justice League...
There's a petition to remove Liam Neeson from Men in Black International due to his past comments on blacks from years ago in relation to a real crime that occurred to a friend...
There was a petition when Black Panther lost the best picture Oscar to Green Book...
There's a petition to get film studios to not film in Georgia after a controversial abortion ban...
There's a petition to stop Twilight and Harry Potter star Robert Pattinson from becoming the next Batman...
And the list goes on and on and on...
The most important point I feel the need to make is that petitions were originally started as a good thing, to bring about social awareness for issues like AIDS, 1st and 2nd Ammendment right preservation, or why girl scout cookies should be sold year round, for example. What we currently are dealing with is something else entirely.
It's not a specific new thing for entitled fans to make lofty demands toward the writers and creators of television shows and movies. The Internet, however, has given everyone a voice to project at the universe their insecurities and ill thought out ideas... in lieu of what threats? Negative tweets? Trolling some fan pages and message boards in a disgruntled and negative manner?
Let's get a grip on this shit, my fellow geeks. Let's NOT sign some dumb petitions NOW OR EVER... because it DOESN'T REALLY MATTER. It's JUST A SHOW/ MOVIE!!! Get a life! It is STUPID to try to make Hollywood adhere to your own stupid, stupid ideas.
The Internet is dark at times; full of idiot mouth breathers who are unhappy with their own lives and thus feel the need to bring others down to their own level. Hollywood, through movies and television, is designed for entertainment and distraction. So just let it be that.
Stop trying to find things wrong with everything. Stop comparing and complaining and try to genuinely enjoy things for a change. If you think you are a better writer... by all means, get out the pen and paper, laptop, PC, tablet, or whatever and write out the next big hit for the big screen or the small screen. You think the writers ideas are dumb? Write something better. Be original. Be brave. But be quiet!
Stop being a whiny titty baby bitch and grow the fuck up! Or just turn the channel and ignore what you don't like... just like you do with things like opiate addiction, crime, war, poverty and homelessness, political corruption, social injustice, xenophobia, racism, sexism, fascism, and other REAL issues that matter more than a fucking movie or TV show...
