Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven

Namaste and welcome to another posting for The Quiet Mouse Strikes Back. For my followers as well as my new readers, this blog is a follow-up to the blog titled "Death" I published back on February 14, 2011, so I recommend reading that prior blog posting first, because I plan to reference it throughout this blog. I also recommend going back through my library of over 300 blog postings that cover a wide range of social and political commentary.
Moving on to the subject at hand...
Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me.

Is it the fear of the unknown, the undiscovered frontier, or the loss of attachment to this material world that makes believers in the afterlife afraid of passing on. We may never be able to know when it is our time to check out to the big siesta in the heavens, but I don't believe that is a reason to be fearful of the afterlife. As I wrote in the previous blog, about 90% of surveyed humans reported believing in some sort of religious affiliated afterlife. Different faiths may have varied beliefs about the nature of death and the afterlife.

Our modern American culture is one of violence, war, and apathy... That is... until a death of a famous person like the late Tom Petty or a violent mass shooting like recently in Las Vegas, Nevada at a country music concert.
I find it ironic how we have this duality, as humans, to be so violent, insensitive, and horrible to one another, on one hand, but then we act all so sad and shocked when something tragic occurs... when our violent and ugly nature as a species rears its head.
I must interject my feeling into this part. I don't think that there are any more or less nut bags, psychos, and those with evil in their hearts than there has ever been in the past, proportional to the overall population. We just happen to have over 7 billion people on this small little green and blue planet AND mass media like no other time in history. Right, wrong, or otherwise, the media has agendas. They stir the pots of divisiveness and stoke the fires of human emotions like hatred, bigotry, and discord. It's their job, or at least how they've figured out how to stay in business by CREATING "programming" to sway the hearts and minds of viewers and listeners. Government, media, and religion are all busy telling us who to hate, fear, and be angry at... but it's THEM we should be mad at.

Everyone wants to go to heaven. What is heaven but another perspective? One man's hell may be another man's heaven and vice versa, just like one man's trash is another man's treasure. What is death but just another rebirth into another form, another universe, another state of consciousness?
It seems that those without fear are the most liberated. Those left in this mortal plane of existence are riddled with the strife, the pain, and the suffering. Then why do we as humans cling onto this fragile life, these fragile bodies, our ego-driven lives?
Everyone wants to go to heaven, but nobody wants to die.
This world we live isn't worth sacrificing for the sake of the afterlife, when we should be making THIS place our Heaven ON Earth, rather than a LIVING HELL. Daily, we see news about the horrors of this world. The untimely deaths, the psychopathic killers, the deranged dictators, and neighborhood boogey-men litter the television screens and newspapers, but RARELY do we hear about the GOOD DEEDS of the world... the people that sacrifice FOR others like teachers, firemen, and police. We rarely hear about the good deeds done by the police; the rescues, the bravery, the valiant deeds nobly performed, the self-sacrifices...

This blog isn't so much about death as it is about LIFE. If life is truly sacred, then it is for ALL human beings, regardless of geography, gender, skin color, sexual orientation, religion, etc. And we NEED to start treating one another better in our homes, our towns, cities, and rural areas. We need to help our communities heal and our hearts and minds to heal. Mass murder isn't a gun issue, it's a heart issue. It's the disregard for the value of human life. It's the fear, anger, and hatred spewed by the media, primarily, that has glorified heinous behavior in lieu of true morality. ONLY in this sick fucking country could people call themselves the believers and followers of a selfless man in Jesus Christ while we bomb brown skinned people in the SAME region of the world that Jesus hailed from in Biblical times. ONLY in this sick country can people call themselves Christian and would deny the health care, civil rights, and basic human dignity to fellow citizens of the world. And then tell a woman what right she has to do with her own body based upon your own beliefs. To burden more children in the world than one can afford to feed and care for. To stand in white towers with greed, gluttony, and vanity while other humans suffer with malnourishment, starvation, and often death. NONE of these things would be acceptable to Jesus, who associated with lepers, hookers, and poor. Jesus did NOT hate homosexuals because he was NOT FILLED WITH HATE!! BUT LOVE!!! For all humans, not just those who are wealthy white Americans, posing as pious good-hearted Christians.

Maybe, just maybe, we should all aspire to something greater than ourselves that doesn't require hatred, violence, and genocide. Because we all want to go to heaven, but we aren't so keen on dying from this life yet. I think that's because our work HERE isn't done yet. We have to continue to make THIS world a better place. Until we definitively know what's on the other side of death... this is the only world we've got. We'd better start fixing this place... at least for the sake of our children and our children's children, so on and so forth...
