Friday the 13th

Namaste  and welcome back  to another  edition  of the  Quiet  Mouse Strikes Back.  Yesterday as you may have noticed was Friday the 13th. I could spend this whole blog talking about  how the "holy"  Roman Catholic church murdered many hundreds of  Templar  Knights on Friday October 13, 1307 with false accusations of witchcraft and heresy.  However,  instead, I would like to spend this time, a short moment, taking about  horror  movies,  moreover the faux pas involved. Don't worry, Jason Voorhees isn't coming to get you...

If you grew up in the 80's, 90's, or before you are probably familiar with classic horror films like Psycho, the  Birds, Frankenstein, Dracula, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm street, Hellraiser, Dawn of the Dead, Halloween, Evil  Dead,  Scream, etc. that defined the horror genre.
What has always made me laugh, honestly, is how stupid some of the on-screen  characters are. Like why do all people in horror movies  when they are being chased by a raving psychopath act retarded? Why on Earth would you not turn on a light in a creepy old dark house or room? Why would you run UP the stairs  to escape a psycho  rather than out the front door to safety? Why the fuck would you stick around to die after all your friends got  hacked up  or  shot by a chainsaw, butcher knife, machete, or gun wielding ASSHOLE who is now coming after YOU? I think the first  Scary Movie  laughably made a  good point  when Carmen Electra was running away from the masked attacker out into the yard to see a sign.  One direction was toward safety  and the other toward certain  death. It may be just a plot point to add drama and suspense,  but  I must say that it is overdone in horror movies and is kinda lame.
I do however prefer  that kind of old school horror movie  because without CGI special effects,  the actors like Christopher Lee, Bella Lugosi, Bruce  Campbell, and Robert Englund had to actually ACT scary.  Modern horror films like Saw, et al, focus too much on  mindless gore and senseless violence that add little to nothing to the continuity of the story,  which is generally weak  and  poorly executed.
Although I admit dislike for movies with creepy kids, I think Insidious is a pretty good modern horror film and I'm looking forward to seeing the sequel which actually looks scarier than the first. Like always, I'll see you at the movies... thanks for  the time and have a creepy day... muhahahaha...
