I know this tragic event occurred this past week and I'm a few days late posting this, but it felt like something I needed to post upon.
A lot of people were influenced by the music of the 90's. A grunge revolution was inspired. There was a change in the way we dressed, acted, and saw the world. Bands like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, White Zombie, and Nirvana impacted the music scene like no other.
Chris Cornell (musician, singer, and songwriter) left his mark on this generation of music lovers with his work in Soundgarden, Audioslave, and Temple of the Dog, with songs like Hunger Strike, Black Hole Sun, Show me how to live, I am the highway, and Like a stone, among others.
The sad part, unfortunately, was his untimely suicide on Wednesday May 17, 2017.
If this tragedy does nothing else, I hope that it shines a little more light into mental health and the way we treat those suffering from depression. Depression IS real. It affects millions, including myself. Even when to all outside views, things seem to be going well, life can be miserable and lonely for someone suffering this invisible disease. If you have a friend or family member suffering from depression or addiction, please be the help they need. There are a lot of treatment options out there for those in need of someone to talk to. This is especially true for middle age men, who have the highest rates of suicide. Veterans are high on that list too.
Rest in peace, Chris Cornell. Your music has inspired a generation. You will not die un-noticed. Your legacy will live on in your words and melodic beats.
